Connecting to Plone via FTP

This How-to applies to: Any version.

How to use FileZilla to make an FTP connection to Plone.

Before you begin

Download and install the current version of FileZillla

* FileZilla is open-source FTP software for Windows

Getting started

1) Launch FileZilla.

2) Click File>Site Manager

3) Click New Site

4) Type a name for the new site settings

5) Enter basic FTP settings as follows

Host: <URL of your site here>

Port: 8021  (8021 is the standard FTP port for Plone, however, your site may use a different port; check with your hosting provider)

Logon type: Normal

Username: your Plone username

Password: your Plone password


This screen should look roughly like this:

6) Click  Advanced...

7) Set advanced settings

Default remote: your default site directory (ask your hosting provider for this information)

Passive transfer mode:  Use passive mode

You should now be able to use these settings to connect to your Plone site and to FTP files in and out.
